It was sunshine all day for the Camborne Agricultural Show, taking place in a lovely rural location where there was a panoramic view stretching to the sea and the town of St Ives in the distance.
The dress code was Day dress and it was an excellent turnout of members, being 10 pipers, 6 drummers and drum major. The Band were into their warm up when a request was made to play at a spot further away from the horse riders as the music was making the horses somewhat skittish, and the Band were happy to comply.
10.00 hours and the Band marched from the show entrance to the performance arena, looking very smart and everyone in step, playing the Scotland the Brave set and where they played for 45 minutes.
The showground was slowly filling up with visitors and there was a great deal on offer to entertain them with the numerous stalls and food outlets. There was the usual bouncy castle and fairground rides for the children, dog shows and horse shows which included shire horses, pony and traps and horse jumping, and various other exercises for horses with and without their riders!
There were tents for crafts, chickens, ducks, goats, horticulture and flowers to mention but a few, most of which were in the throes of being judged. There was a large display of tractors and vintage cars. Other musical entertainment included the Camborne Youth Band, the “Jumping Out” Jazz Band and “Proper Job”.
At 10.45 and during the applause the Kernow Band marched out of the arena for a refreshment break and photo shoot. By the time of their next slot at 12.30 the showground was really full and the weather was very warm and jackets were removed. They marched on and played for 45 minutes and cameras clicked and their audience showed their appreciation heartily. After dismissal some members stayed to enjoy the many attractions of the Show.
Tunes played during the two appearances included the following – Green Hills/Battles O’er, Scotland the Brave/Rowan Tree/Wings/Bonny Galloway, Scotland the Brave/Mairi’s Wedding, Collin’s Cattle/Shoals of Herring, Steam Boat/Atholl Highlanders/Cock of the North, Waters of Kylesku/Skye Boat/Morag of Dunvegan, Cockney Jocks/Rainbow Country/Bluebells of Scotland, High Road to Gairloch/Murdo’s Wedding/Bonny Lass, Dark Isle, Amazing Grace, Highland Cathedral.
It had been a good day in a vibrant showground setting, with a range of entertainment and as usual the Kernow Band played their very best and were very much appreciated.
