TRURO CITY OF LIGHTS PARADE
Pipers: Ali, Emma, Alex, Dave, John and Nigel
Drums: Anita, Shaolie, Chris, Ed, Matt and Steve
Support: Thanks to Marie and Michelle who carried our promotional banner and Keith for helping.

The Kernows had the privilege of leading this year’s City of Lights Parade in Truro last night. Luckily, the wet and windy weather forecast did not materialise, so the crowds were out in force to enjoy the spectacle. The band members were delighted to welcome Shaolie on her first outing with the band. Shaolie came along to band to allow her son to learn the pipes but was instantly captivated by Anita on the tenor and has taken to the tenor drum like a “duck to water”! Delighted to have you on board!

We set a slow pace as requested by the organisers but that did mean we were playing more sets per mile plus there were only two rest opportunities so it was a big effort by everyone. We intermingled the 6/8 drum call with the sets during which the Hall for Cornwall Youth Theatre group shouted out their “poems” based on the Clock theme of the carnival. The group also recited before the Switch On and the Town Crier gave the count down with a spontaneous drum roll from the Kernow drummers. The lights looked wonderful!

Always very satisfying to see the reactions and enjoy the smiles from the crowds and see families out enjoying the bands and lanterns.
Smiles all around!
