KERNOW PIPES AND DRUMS AT ST MERRYN CARNIVAL 20 AUGUST 2011

Pipers: Nigel, Don, Stuart, David, Tom, Rob,

Drummers:  James, Ed, Don

By late afternoon the clouds had gone and the sky was blue. The Band of 6 pipers and 3 drummers assembled in the playing field around 6 pm for a warm up before the Carnival procession started.

There was real concern for the drummer who had inadvertently left his keys inside his car.  7 pm and the Carnival started and the Band played until arriving at the crossroads where they stayed and played to the appreciative crowds as the main Parade continued up the hill and down around the estate. All were thankful that the dismal weather had not happened as last year when it had rained continually!

The show over, it being around 8 pm and the issue of retrieving the locked-in car keys could be addressed. The Band member, with the aid of a very long bamboo stick, extreme patience and dexterity and encouraged by   loudly encouraging supporters finally gained access to his car. There was a great cheer and everyone went home thankfully!
