Monday 15th December
Genesis Research Trust

Pipers: Nigel, Stuart, Tom G, Miranda, Chris

Drummers: Snare – James, Tenor – Vic, John R, Bass – Andrew

The Gala Dinner being held in the Penventon Hotel was in aid of the Genesis Research Trust Charity and the Organisers had requested that a small number of pipers and drummers play at the event. The Kernow Band had previously attended a charity function there four years ago and had been well received. They were delighted to accept the engagement and the Dress code was No 1s with Glengarries. A rest room with refreshments had been put at their disposal.

It was a black tie formal event and the Hotel was elaborately glittering with festive decoration. The evening had commenced with the Hayle Town Silver Band on the stage playing Christmas carols while the guests found their seats. During the evening there was a charity auction and raffle, dancing and of course the comedian Johnny Cowling would be taking up a big part of the evening.

The Band’s entrance into the Forum Room with the assembled guests was to be a total surprise and it came in a break during the Comedian’s performance who pretended to be talking to some latecomers on the phone and invited them in.  As the double doors opened and the Band entered marching between the tables, the unsuspecting guests clapped appreciatively. After fifteen minutes the Members left to more cheering, marching out through the bar and entering another room in which a private birthday party was being held and they played again by request. It had been a pleasant evening with a truly pre-Christmas atmosphere for a well-deserved cause. Tunes played during the evening included – Highland Cathedral, Scotland the Brave/Rowan Tree/Wings/Bonny Galloway, Scotland the Brave/Mairi’s Wedding, Cockney Jocks/Rainbow Country/Bluebells of Scotland.
