The Band Members met in the Trago Mills car park at 10.30 hours to play in the two hour engagement. It was a cold and windy day but there was a cheerful atmosphere as Christmas shoppers milled in and around the building already decorated with colourful festive lights. Dress code was No 2s with Glengarries and waistcoats and the Band had the welcome shelter of a marquee in case of rain.
There were to be three slots of twenty minutes with 15 minute intervals in between for rest and refreshment kindly provided by the Organisers. The Band drew much appreciation from the shoppers as they stopped to listen and there was amusing interaction with some very persistent green clad turtles. This was the Band’s last engagement before the New Year.
Tunes played included the following – Highland Cathedral, Waters of Kylesku/Skye Boat Song/Morag of Dunvegin. Green Hills of Tyrol/When the Battle’s O’er. Drum Corps. Scotland the Brave/Rowan Tree/Wings/Bonny Galloway. Colins Cattle/Shoals of Herring. Scotland The Brave/Mairi’s Wedding. Drum Corps. Last of the Great Whales. Cockney Jocks. Amazing Grace. Auld Lang Syne. Na Awa Tae Bide Awa. Solo pipers also played Christmas Carols.
After their dismissal most of the members retired to the Restaurant for lunch and agreed it had not been nearly so cold as the previous year. (Thanks to those involved in the search for a Piper’s missing keys which were not missing, just inadvertently left in the boot of someone’s car!!!)
